Devan Ahart picked up his fifth hit of the series with an RBI single in the third inning, but stopgap St. Paul starter Ryan Zimmerman surrendered just one run over six innings and the Saints cruised to a 10-2 win at The Depot Wednesday night.
Ahart's single was just one of five Railroader hits, and Zimmerman gave up just one of those. The Railroaders scored once to tie the game in the third inning, but the Saints then scored five times in the fourth, once in the fifth, once in the eighth and twice in the ninth -- the most runs Cleburne has given up in a game this year.
Cleburne starter Josh Hodges surrendered seven runs on nine hits with four walks and five strikeouts over five innings, while Harrison Lee gave up three runs on six hits with no walks and a strikeout over 3.2 innings. Axel Johnson needed two pitches to record the final out in the ninth.
Ahart, Shawn Zarraga, Brandon Tierney and Mike Blanke all singled for the Railroaders, and Alex Polston clubbed the team's first triple of 2017 in the eighth inning, but 19 of the 27 outs the Saints recorded were via the groundout or strikeout.
The two teams wrap up the four-game set at The Depot Thursday night. Good seats are still available and tickets can be purchased at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by visiting the box office located near the main gates of the stadium.
