SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Alex Polston drove in a run with a double in the fourth inning -- but was ultimately beaten home trying to score on a subsequent infield single -- capping a frustrating 4-2 loss to the Sioux Falls Canaries in the series opener at Sioux Falls Stadium Friday night.
Polston’s double was the only extra base hit among 10 separate base knocks for the Railroaders – and all nine starters finished with at least one – but Cleburne also bounced into a nine-inning season-high four double plays.
Harrison Lee made his first start of 2017 and gave up four runs on six hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Lee couldn’t solve Ty Morrison, who hit a two-out, two-run single in the first and added insurance with a solo homer in the sixth.
Onas Farfan pitched two scoreless innings in relief, giving up just one hit with a pair of strikeouts.
K.C. Huth finished with the only multi-hit performance in the lineup, and both Huth and Mesa scored Cleburne’s only two runs.
The loss ended the Railroaders’ seven-game winning streak and dropped Cleburne to 4-8 against the North Division in 2017.
Game two of the three-game set is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at Sioux Falls Stadium on Saturday evening. The game can be heard live on the Railroader Radio Network, with pregame beginning at 5:45 p.m.
The Railroaders return home Monday, June 12 to open a four-game set with the Salina Stockade. Good seats are still available for the homestand, and tickets can be purchased online at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by visiting the box office located by the home plate gate at The Depot.
