CLEBURNE, Texas -- Mitch Glasser went 3-for-5 with an RBI, but the Railroaders lost an early lead and fell 7-5 to the Sioux Falls Canaries in the series opener at The Depot Monday night.
Glasser had three of Cleburne’s 13 hits on the night, and after Shawn Zarraga doubled in a couple of runs in the first and Glasser singled in another run in the second, Cleburne took an early 4-0 lead.
But Sioux Falls immediately answered with a four-run third inning, highlighted by Chris Jacobs’s three-run home run. The Canaries then added three more in the eighth -- capped by a Jabari Henry two-run homer -- to seal their sixth win in eight games.
Maikol Gonzalez, Geraldo Valentin and Shawn Zarraga each added a pair of hits, and Oscar Mesa reached three times in the No. 7 spot, but the 13 total hits couldn’t overcome the two Sioux Falls homers and Cleburne fell to 5-10 against the North Division.
Santos Arias pitched five innings and gave up four runs over seven hits with three walks on six hits, while Casey Upperman -- who hadn’t given up a run in nine appearances coming in -- gave up three runs on three hits in the eighth inning and was tagged with the loss.
Game two of the three-game set will start at 7:06 p.m. Saturday night, and it’s followed by the third Saturday Night Fireworks Show of the year. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by visiting the box office near the main gate at the stadium.
