CLEBURNE, Texas -- Dylan Mouzakes gave up just one earned run over five-plus innings in his first career start for the Railroaders, but Salina scored six runs in the sixth inning in a 7-1 rout of Cleburne at The Depot on Monday night.
Mouzakes pitched into a scoreless sixth inning and left with two on and nobody out, and Salina ultimately scored six times on five hits -- helped by a pair of errors -- to take a 6-0 lead.
Cleburne scored once after putting two on with nobody out in the eighth, but 16 consecutive Railroaders were retired from the second to the seventh innings, and Cleburne lost its second game in the last four tries against the Stockade.
Onas Farfan gave up four runs on four hits without recording an out in the sixth inning, but Casey Upperman and Cortland Cox combined to throw three scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Winston Abreu gave up one run on a pair of hits in the ninth.
Axel Johnson reached twice -- extending his hitting streak to five with a single in the second -- and Mitch Glasser singled in the first inning. But Maikol Gonzalez finished 0-for-4 and ended his 11-game hitting streak and one night after stranding 13 runners on base, Cleburne had just four individual baserunners over nine innings.
Salina starter Chris Cody throw the Stockade’s fourth complete game of the year, giving up just five hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
Game 2 of the three-game set is scheduled for Tuesday night. First pitch is 7:06 p.m., and the Railroader Pregame Show will begin at 6:45. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by visiting the box office located near the main gate at The Depot.
