CLEBURNE, Texas -- Jorge Martinez gave up just one run over 5.2 innings, but the Railroaders finished with just five hits in a 3-0 loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs at The Depot on Friday night.
Martinez gave up four hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts, but Cleburne knocked only one extra-base hit along with four singles, and the Saltdogs scored a single run in three separate innings to even up the series.
Yunesky Sanchez doubled with two outs in the ninth -- the 1,300th hit of his professional career -- and both Axel Johnson and Geraldo Valentin finished with base hits, but Cleburne struck out five times in the final four innings and fell to 0-23 when trailing after eight innings this year.
Bryce Beeler gave up four hits and two runs -- one earned -- over 1.1 innings, and Wander Perez threw two scoreless innings with a pair of walks.
Oscar Mesa’s five-game hitting streak came to an end after he drove in two runs on three hits in the series opener Thursday.
Derrick Pyles -- making his debut as a Cleburne Railroader -- singled to right field in his first plate appearance.
Brian McAfee pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up four hits with two strikeouts, and Cameron McVey and Michael Wagner combined to surrender just one hit over two shutout innings in relief.
Game 3 of the four-game set is scheduled for 7:06 p.m. Saturday. Postgame fireworks -- weather permitting -- will start 10 minutes after the conclusion of the game. Tickets can be purchased at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by visiting the box office located near the main gate at The Depot.
