LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Maikol Gonzalez finished 2-for-5 with a pair of singles, but the Cleburne Railroaders lost their third consecutive game, 5-1, to the Lincoln Saltdogs at Haymarket Park on Sunday afternoon.
Gonzalez had two of Cleburne’s nine hits, but the Railroaders stranded 10 runners -- six in scoring position -- and felt to a season-high six games under .500.
All but one Cleburne starter finished with a hit, and Oscar Mesa drove in the only run with an RBI double in the ninth inning.
After a couple of walks, Cleburne loaded the bases and Gonzalez stepped in as the game-tying run with two outs before he bounced into a game-ending fielder’s choice.
K.C. Huth collected a hit for the sixth time in his last seven games, and Derrick Pyles recorded his fourth hit of the series.
Alberto Rodriguez gave up three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts over six innings, and Cortland Cox surrendered a pair of runs in two innings of relief.
Lincoln starter Seth Webster threw seven scoreless with seven hits and a strikeout, and Michael Wagner added his 11th save after he inherited the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth.
The series finale of the four-game set is scheduled for Monday night. First pitch time is 6:45 and can be heard live on the Railroader Radio Network with the pregame show starting 20 minutes prior.
Cleburne returns home to begin a 14-game homestand on Wednesday, July 26 against the Wichita Wingnuts. Good seats are available and can be purchased at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by visiting the box office located near the main gate at The Depot.
