LINCOLN, Nebraska -- The Cleburne Railroaders have announced the signing of American Association veteran Pichi Balet on Monday afternoon.
Balet (pronounced buh-LET) joins the club after an eight-year absence from professional baseball and will primarily serve as a designated hitter.
The Lincoln, Neb. native last played for the Lincoln Saltdogs in 2009 and is one of the most decorated hitters in league history.
During the first part of Balet’s career which stretched from 2001-09, the righty slashed .337/.399/.454 with 45 homers and 443 RBI in 643 games.
He also played eight seasons of independent baseball with the Frontier League, Northern League and American Association and hit .348 with an .882 OPS over 540 games.
Balet played with the Saltdogs from 2005-07 and again in 2009, and sits third all-time with a career .341 average and 253 RBIs. Balet’s .378 average in 2006 is also the second-highest single-season mark in franchise history.
