FARGO, North Dakota -- Derrick Pyles added two more hits on the road trip, but the Railroaders lost 6-2 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday night.
Pyles had seven hits and 10 RBI over two games against Gary SouthShore, and he knocked a pair of singles in the fifth and the seventh innings, but Alberto Rodriguez gave up a season-high six runs with 128 pitches over 6.1 innings, and Cleburne lost for the seventh time in eight games on the trip.
Pyles now has 12 hits in 26 at-bats on the season-long 10-game trip, but after a 46-hit outburst over three games against the RailCats, Cleburne had just six over nine innings in the series opener.
Maikol Gonzalez finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Mitch Glasser extended his hitting streak to four with an infield single and run scored in the sixth. Alex Polston singled and scored in his second game after re-signing on Thursday morning.
Fargo starter Jose Almarante didn’t allow a baserunner until the fourth or a hit until the fifth, and he gave up just two runs on six hits over eight innings.
Cortland Cox came on in relief of Rodriguez in the seventh and struck out four of the seven batters he faced over the remaining 1.2 innings.
Game 2 of the three-game set is scheduled for Saturday evening. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. and can be heard on the Railroader Radio Network with the pregame show beginning 20 minutes prior.
