CLEBURNE, Texas -- Pichi Balet hit a go-ahead two-run triple in the seventh inning, and the Cleburne Railroaders held on for a 6-5 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs in front of 2,585 fans at The Depot on Monday night.
Balet’s triple followed up Nick Van Stratten’s game-tying triple, and Cleburne beat the league’s best team to win its seventh game in nine tries.
Cleburne scored three runs in the fourth inning before the three runs in the seventh inning, when K.C. Huth’s single drove in Johnson and Alex Polston doubled in Huth. Polston then gave Cleburne a 3-2 lead with a double-steal.
The Saltdogs scored once in five separate innings, and got solo homers from Nathaniel Maggio and Curt Smith early in the game. The Saltdogs stranded 14 runners on and 10 over the last four innings.
Maikol Gonzalez reached three times with a pair of walks, while Huth went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Polston knocked his third extra-base hit in two games.
Cleburne starter Joe Jones gave up a pair of runs on six hits over four innings, and the Railroaders used seven total pitchers Monday night. Winston Abreu earned his 19th save with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Lincoln starter Seth Webster, making his first start since July 21, gave up three runs on six hits over 3.2 innings. Fabio Martinez gave up three runs over three innings.
Game 2 of the three-game set is scheduled for Tuesday night. First pitch time is 7:06 p.m. and can be heard live on the Railroader Radio Network with coverage beginning 20 minutes prior.
