KANSAS CITY, Kansas -- Mitch Abeita drove in two runs in the eighth inning, but Cleburne couldn’t overcome a four-run first inning in a 4-2 loss to the Kansas City T-Bones at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Wednesday night.
Abeita’s two-out single cut the T-Bones’ lead in half, but Cleburne stranded nine runners and snapped its run of four consecutive series wins after dropping each of the last two games.
Patrick Mincey gave up four runs on five hits in the first inning, but then faced just 19 batters -- one more than the minimum -- over the next six innings.
Axel Johnson reached three times with a single, a walk and a hit-by-pitch, and Nick Van Stratten extended his hit streak to nine with a double in the sixth.
Maikol Gonzalez extended his on-base streak to 11 games with a walk in the eighth, and Blake Grant-Parks went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.
K.C. Huth made his first start since Aug. 18 and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
T-Bones starter Alex Blackford earned his first win in independent baseball with six scoreless innings, and Cody Winiarski earned his 18th save to effectively eliminate Cleburne from wild card contention.
Cleburne returns home for the final three-game series at The Depot on Friday, Aug. 25. Good seats are still available and can be purchased at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by visiting the box office located near the main gate at the stadium.
