RAILROADERS BLOW NINTH-INNING LEAD IN LOSS TO WICHITA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 13, 2018
CLEBURNE, Texas – Blake Grant-Parks hit a go-ahead two-run single in the 8th inning, but Cleburne gave up four runs in the 9th in a 6-3 loss to the Wichita Wingnuts at The Depot on Wednesday night.
Grant-Parks’s single came after Angelo Gumbs and Alex Polston led off the frame with back-to-back walks and advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch.
Tyler Wilson then came on for his second save in the 9th before giving up a first-pitch single to Abel Nieves and a game-tying double to Fernando Perez.
After Perez doubled, Tony Thomas laid down a sacrifice bunt and both John Nester and Ryne Willard were hit by pitches to load the bases for Logan Trowbridge, who worked a go-ahead walk. Logan Watkins later singled in two more runs as part of the four-run 9th inning.
Cleburne starter Dylan Mouzakes gave up just two runs – one earned – in six innings of work. Both runs came in the 1st inning after a Watkins walk and a Nieves single in which Cleburne committed two errors that allowed Watkins to score and Nieves to get to third. Nieves later scored on an RBI groundout.
The Railroaders halved the deficit when Grant-Parks bounced into a fielder’s choice in the 4th inning.
Wichita starter Travis Banwart gave up just one run on seven hits over five innings, while Jackson Sigman surrendered the two runs in the 8th before earning his first win after a 1-2-3 9th inning.
The Railroaders have now lost four consecutive games and will look to avoid a sweep against the Wingnuts on Thursday night at The Depot. Right-hander Jared Mortensen will throw for the Railroaders, while RHP Jordan Cooper will pitch for the Wingnuts.
