RAILROADERS SWEPT BY KANSAS CITY

CLEBURNE, Texas – Angel Rosa homered to extend his RBI streak to seven games, but Cleburne was swept in an 8-3 loss to the Kansas City T-Bones at The Depot on Wednesday night.
Rosa reached three times and scored all three Cleburne runs, but Jared Mortensen gave up six runs on six hits with five walks over eight innings.
With a short-staffed bullpen, outfielder John Menken came on to pitch in a 6-3 game in the 9th inning and gave up two runs on a pair of hits with three walks and a strikeout in the final inning.
Kansas City opened the scoring with three runs on a Noah Perio Jr. RBI single and Taylor Featherston two-run homer in the 1st inning.
Cleburne later answered when T-Bones starter Pasquale Mazzoccoli balked in a run the bottom of the 1st and gave up another on Levi Scott’s RBI groundout in the 3rd.
Rosa’s halved the deficit in the 5th after Dexter Kjerstad singled in another KC run in the 4th inning, but Todd Cunningham’s two-run single in the 6th opened the game up for good.
Chase Simpson had a three-hit night and also walked, but outside of Rosa and Simpson Cleburne combined to go just 1-for-25 with nine strikeouts. Jake Simpson walked twice and Alex Polston also walked twice.
After Mazzoccoli surrendered three runs over four innings, the T-Bones bullpen combine for five scoreless innings in relief.
Cleburne finished the homestand 2-4 and was swept for the first time at home in 2018.
The Railroaders now hit the road to begin a season-long eight-game roadtrip that begins with a four-game series in Wichita, Kan. starting on Thursday night. First pitch time is set for 7:05 p.m. and pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 p.m.
