RAILROADERS DROP DOUBLEHEADER
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 27, 2018
CLEBURNE, Texas -- Jake Simpson collected four hits over the doubleheader, but Cleburne lost Game 1 7-3 and later dropped Game 2 9-3 against the Gary SouthShore RailCats at The Depot on Friday night.
Simpson, who had three hits in the Railroaders career coming in, went 2-for-4 with his first Cleburne RBI in Game 1 and then posted two more hits with a walk and a run scored in the second game.
The RailCats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in first game on RBI hits from Randy Santiesteban and Collin Willis before a sacrifice fly from D.K. Carey in the 2nd inning. Simpson drove in Cleburne’s first run in the 2nd inning before the ‘Cats made it 7-1 with a run in the 4th and three in the 6th.
The Railroaders got two back in the 6th but Roman Gomez surrendered four runs over five innings with no walks and six strikeouts.
In Game 2, the RailCats scored twice in both the 2nd and 3rd innings before a three-spot in the 4th.
Cleburne scored three times in the 5th inning with run-scoring hits from Angel Rosa and Trevor Sealey before Rosa eventually scored an unearned run to cut the deficit to four.
Gary got a run back on Wilfredo Gimenez’s RBI single before Carey added another with a sacrifice fly.
Rosa finished with two hits and an RBI and Trevor Sealey went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the nightcap of the doubleheader. Cam Monger scored two runs and added a double, and K.C. Huth reached on a walk and an infield single.
Cleburne never led in the doubleheader and has now lost nine consecutive games for the first time in franchise history.
Game 3 of the five-game series is set for Saturday night at 7:06 p.m. RHP Jared Mortensen will go head-to-head with LHP Lars Liguori.
