RAILROADERS TAKE OPENER NORTH OF THE BORDER
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 6, 2018
WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Levi Scott hit a 4th-inning grand slam, and Cleburne opened its first-ever series north of the U.S.-Canada border with a 6-3 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park on Monday night.
Scott’s homer was his 12th of the season and vaulted him into the team’s RBI lead with 39. Scott also extended his hitting streak to eight games and he has 14 RBI over that span.
Trevor Sealey also became only the second Railroader with a double-digit hit streak, extending his to 10 with a single in the 3rd inning.
Winnipeg opened the scoring with Tucker Nathans’s 8th homer of the year – a solo shot off of Dylan Mouzakes in the 2nd inning. Mouzakes went five innings and gave up three runs, but was pulled from the game for precautionary reasons while throwing his warmup pitches in the 6th inning.
Cleburne loaded the bases in the 3rd inning before Rafael Palmeiro drove in a pair with a two-run single. The Goldeyes answered when Jordan Ebert scored from second on a wild pitch in the 3rd, and Scott gave the Railroaders the lead for good with his grand slam in the 4th.
Winnipeg edged closer on Tyler Baker’s RBI double in the 5th, but Will Mathis, Patrick Young and Shawn Blackwell combined for four scoreless innings in relief. Blackwell worked around a leadoff single for his 12th save of the year in the 9th.
All nine Cleburne starters recorded at least one hit, and Scott was the lone Railroader with a multi-hit game.
The three-game series continues at Shaw Park on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Cleburne will send LHP Michael Gunn to the mound, and LHP Mitchell Lambson will pitch for the Goldeyes.
Cleburne returns home Friday, August 10th to begin a four-game set with the Wichita Wingnuts. All promo info and ticket info can be accessed on www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
