CLEBURNE, Tex. (June 27, 2019) – The Cleburne Railroaders got a quality start from Jesus Sanchez and a pair of timely homers to knock off the Lincoln Saltdogs 7-4 on Thursday night at The Depot at Cleburne Station. The victory completed a sweep of the three-game series, the first time this season the Railroaders have won three consecutive games.
The game was scoreless into the bottom of the third, when Cleburne (19-20) struck for four runs, all with two outs. Grant Buck got the scoring started with an RBI single down the right field line, then on the very next pitch John Nester ripped a three-run home run over the wall in left to extend the lead to 4-0.
Lincoln (19-20) crawled back to within 4-3 with one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth, but Sanchez (4-2) limited the damage in each instance to keep Cleburne in front. The right-hander allowed eight hits and three runs, all earned, while issuing two walks.
K.C. Huth provided much-needed breathing room with a two-run single in the sixth, pushing the Railroaders lead to 6-3.
A pair of wild pitches brought home Teodoro Martinez in the top of the seventh, cutting into the Cleburne lead, but Ryan Brett had the answer with a solo blast in the seventh that restored the cushion to 7-4.
Nefi Ogando and Tyler Wilson were excellent in relief, retiring all six they faced on just 15 pitches. Wilson worked a 1-2-3 ninth to secure his sixth save of the season.
Ricky Knapp (1-2) took the loss for Lincoln, allowing ten hits and six runs in six innings of work.
The Railroaders make the short trip to Grand Prairie on Friday as they open a four-game series with the Texas AirHogs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM, with right-hander Charlie Gillies (1-4, 4.50) getting the ball for Cleburne.
