CLEBURNE, Tex. (July 19, 2019) – The Cleburne Railroaders allowed only four singles and got another big swing from Chase Simpson, shutting out the Milwaukee Milkmen 6-0 on Friday night at The Depot. The win was Cleburne’s 34th of the season, eclipsing the club’s win total from a season ago.
For the first four innings, Cleburne (34-24) was handcuffed by Milwaukee starter Kurt Heyer (3-7), who did not allow a hit while striking out six. But the Railroaders found the breakthrough in the fifth, scratching out a run on two singles and a sacrifice fly from Hunter Clanin to grab a 1-0 lead.
Simpson provided breathing room an inning later, lifting an 0-1 pitch from Heyer just over the wall in right field for a three-run home run, pushing the Railroaders lead to 4-0. The blast was Simpson’s 15th of the season, increasing his league-leading RBI total to 62 on the year.
Four runs proved to be more than enough support for Eudis Idrogo (5-3), who finished with six strikeouts over five scoreless innings. Idrogo has now allowed only two combined runs over his last three starts, covering 18.0 innings of work.
Cleburne added a run in the seventh on a John Nester bases-loaded walk and one more in the eighth on a two-out RBI single from K.C. Huth to produce the final margin.
Milwaukee (24-34) only got one runner to second base on the evening. Martire Garcia, Daniel Hurtado and Braden Pearson were fantastic out of the Railroaders bullpen, allowing just one baserunner over the final four innings.
The Railroaders and Milkmen continue their series on Saturday night at 7:06 PM. The Railroaders are expected to start right-hander Charlie Gillies (2-5, 4.42), while Milwaukee counter with lefty T.J. House (7-3, 3.74).
