CLEBURNE, Texas – For the second time this season and second time in four days the Cleburne Railroaders prepare for a doubleheader. The Winnipeg Goldeyes(10-12) play host to the Railroaders (8-14) in a three game set in Winnipeg.
The Railroaders split a doubleheader Sunday at home against the Kane County Cougars (14-8) after Saturday’s matchup was rescheduled due to weather. Cleburne fell in the first leg 9-3 on Sunday before bouncing back in game two, winning 9-2.
John Baker (2-0) picked up his second win of the season allowing two runs across 5.0 innings striking out three. Brock Bell worked another scoreless inning of work out of the bullpen before handing the ball to Ryder Yakel who did the same to round out the win.
The Railroader offense was well balanced in the win. Catcher Oscar Hernandez provided three hits and drove in two RBI. Outfielder Mallex Smith went 2-for-3 including a bunt single that turned into Smith standing at second base, sparking a five run inning for the Roaders in the third.
Outfielder Cody Thomas swung the bat well in both games with a combined 3-for-6 effort at the plate with two RBI, both coming in game two. Infielder Jonny Barditch pushed across two RBI in game one, his first two RBI as a Railroader.
Cleburne will hand the ball to Luke Short (0-4) for game one of Tuesday’s doubleheader with first pitch set for 5:30 p.m. All American Association games can be streamed for free on aabaseball.tv.
After three games against Winnipeg, the Roaders will head over to Sioux City, Iowa to face the Sioux City Explorers (11-13) in a three-game set. Cleburne returns home on June 16 to face the Kansas City Monarchs.
